The effect of incubation and prefeeding of infected Rhipicephalus simus nymphae and adults on the transmission of Anaplasma marginale.

چکیده
Two batches of unfed Rhipicephalus simus nymphae carrying Anaplasma marginale were incubated for 72 h and 96 h respectively at 37 degrees C. Fifty ticks were triturated at a time and the homogenates were used to infect susceptible cattle. Others were prefed on a bovine host for 72 h before tick suspensions were prepared. The same procedure was followed, using a single batch of infected adult ticks. Incubation had no effect on the infectivity of the nymphal homogenates, but prefeeding of nymphae reduced the prepatent period by 8 days in 1 of the 2 attempts. In the case of the adult ticks both incubation and prefeeding reduced prepatent periods by 5 and 8 days respectively.

The present study was conducted as the first molecular detection of Anaplasma species in tick samples based on the sequencing of major surface proteins 4 (msp4) gene fragments in different parts of Iran. A total of 130 tick specimens were collected from Hormozgan, Lorestan, and Guilan, Iran, within 2015 to 2017. Hyalomma asiaticum, Hyalomma dromedarii</em...
متن کاملCorrection: Knockdown of the Rhipicephalus microplus Cytochrome c Oxidase Subunit III Gene Is Associated with a Failure of Anaplasma marginale Transmission
Rhipicephalus microplus is an obligate hematophagous ectoparasite of cattle and an important biological vector of Anaplasma marginale in tropical and subtropical regions. The primary determinants for A. marginale transmission are infection of the tick gut, followed by infection of salivary glands. Transmission of A. marginale to cattle occurs via infected saliva delivered during tick feeding. I...
متن کاملTick transmission of Anaplasma centrale.
Anaplasma centrale was isolated from a field collection of Rhipicephalus simus. Transstadial transmission of A. centrale with adult ticks was demonstrated, but the infection was not carried transovarially. Ticks from this collection were subsequently reared as a non-infected, laboratory strain. It was proved that the Onderstepoort live blood vaccine strain of A. centrale, isolated by Theiler in...
متن کاملIdentification of Rhipicephalus microplus Genes That Modulate the Infection Rate of the Rickettsia Anaplasma marginale
Arthropod vectors transmit a diversity of animal and human pathogens, ranging from RNA viruses to protozoal parasites. Chemotherapeutic control of pathogens has classically focused either on insecticides that kill the vector itself or antimicrobials for infected patients. The limitation of the former is that it targets both infected and uninfected vectors and selects for resistant populations w...
متن کاملMolecular study on infection rates of Anaplasma ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep and cattle in West-Azerbaijan province, Iran
This study was carried out to determine the presence and frequency of Anaplasma ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep and dairy cattle in West-Azerbaijan province, Iran. A total number of 200 blood samples were randomly collected via the jugular vein from apparently healthy cattle (100) and sheep (100). The extracted DNA from blood cells was screened using genus-specific (Anaplasma...
